Nurture

At Hollington Primary School, our priority is that children feel safe and happy to be able to access their learning and build and maintain the pivotal skills that will impact on them positively as they grow through life.  We understand that children’s forms of communication are not just verbal and can also be displayed through their behaviours.  In relation to this, it is our duty to provide a safe space for the children to establish and sustain important relationships, to be heard and to identify which support they may need to help them thrive.

Many children in school will be able to access this support through the inclusive mainstream classroom environment but for some children, it is recognised that more of a targeted approach is required.
Our in-school Nurture provision is called ‘The Nest’.  Catering for children to access a structured and predictable daily routine which is based around the Six Principles of Nurture, this intervention allows for children to build upon their resilience, emotional literacy and self-esteem in smaller developmental groups.  This therefore provides targeted support for the ones who need this most.  Being supported by skilled and experienced staff members, the aim of The Nest is to equip the children with a sense of self-worth and skills and experiences that they may have missed in earlier life.  This in turn contributes towards children overcoming barriers to their engagement and learning which allows them to reintegrate into and excel in a mainstream classroom.
